The Rev. Robert C. Monson

The Rev. Robert Clyde Monson, 82, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at White Oak Estates. He was born on September 3, 1940, in Florence County, a son to the late John Taylor and Gladys Hinds Monson. 

He attended schools in Mars Bluff and Florence and earned degrees from Wofford College, The Divinity School of Duke University and the Theological School of Drew University, Madison, NJ. He was a retired United Methodist Minister and Chaplain after serving 42 years of service.  

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Lunsford Monson, his son, John Charles Monson (Sarah). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Taylor Monson; brothers, John Taylor Monson, Jr. and J. T. Monson; a sister, JoAnne M. Ross.  

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am, Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the fellowship hall of Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306 with funeral services following at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary conducted by The Rev. Cameron Treece, The Rev. Luther Rickenbaker and The Rev. Will Rogers Brown. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
