The J.F. Floyd Mortuary
is owned and operated today by Russel and Gordon Floyd and their
sister, Suzan Floyd Mabry, the third generation of the founding
family. Their grandfather, John F. Floyd, started the firm in 1886
at 19 years of age, as part of "J.F. Floyd, Furniture and
Undertaking". Mr. Floyd's father, "A.G.", had moved to Spartanburg
around 1870 from York, South Carolina, and established a 19th
century department store featuring dry goods and hardware, where
caskets were just another inventory item. The later specialization
in funeral goods and services was a normal evolution of the times,
seen all over the South, where many funeral homes had their origins
as furniture stores. Some families operate both even today. J.F.
Floyd offered the community of Spartanburg quality funeral service
then and his grandchildren carry on the tradition today from four
convenient locations, by maintaining an experienced, caring staff
who provide personal and professional funeral service throughout
Spartanburg county.

As a result, they have earned the trust of families
who have relied on their service for generations and they work
diligently today to maintain that trust. We hope you
find this site helpful. Thank you for visiting.
"We are very honored and fortunate to
have been a part of the growth of Spartanburg County, now entering
our third century of operation. The J.F. Floyd Mortuary was founded
in 1886 upon the highest principles of funeral service. It has
always been our pleasure to make everyone welcome and "at home" at
Floyd's. During these many years, our policy has been to provide
all families who come to us with dedicated and sincere service. We
appreciate the people of Spartanburg and the confidence they have
placed in us over these many years and pledge to maintain our
commitment to service in order to warrant their continuing trust.
It continues to be our privilege to serve the families of
Spartanburg." - The Floyd Family
