Walter Anderson Iii

April 11, 1948 — July 3, 2021

Walter Cary Anderson, III of Reidville, SC passed away on July 3, 2021. Son of the late Walter C. Anderson, Jr. and Lucille Benjamin Anderson, Cary is survived by his wife, Kathleen Walker Anderson, their son Joel Cameron Anderson, his wife Layne, and their son Benjamin. Also surviving are two sisters, Celia Anderson, her two daughters and their families, and Sara Jo Levine, her four children and their families.

After serving as a Naval Supply Officer in Vietnam (1969-71), Cary attended Limestone College. An excellent saxophonist, Cary worked through college in two bands, and as a pick-up artist for beach and soul bands touring the area. After graduation, he lived in Wilmington, NC, but returned to help with the family farm after his grandfather died. When drought and late freezes made farming risky, peach trees gave way to vegetables, and Cary turned his love for old cars into a career by opening a small automotive repair business specializing in vintage European imports.

People remember Cary as a kind and generous friend, husband, father, and grandfather. Animals and young children trusted him instinctively; he helped anyone who came needing, and he lived every day as a steward of the land. He was a true gentleman, gracious to all, and gave amazing hugs. He loved his home, good music, good motors, and most of all, his family. Just days before he died, Cary traveled to meet his new grandson, whom he immediately adored.

A memorial service led by Rev. Scott Neely is planned for 11:00 AM on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Nazareth Presbyterian Church, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC, 29369, followed by burial with military honors in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Guests are invited to a reception in Cary’s honor immediately after the service.
