Obituary

Katherine Taylor Barnett, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, with her beloved husband, Dean, by her side. Born September 17, 1926, in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Avery and Vennie Taylor.

Katherine graduated from Cowpens High School in 1944 and attended Gardner-Webb College. She was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was later a long-standing member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She loved her Lord.

Katherine dedicated almost the entirety of her life to her husband, her children, and grandchildren. She married Dean Barnett in 1949, and they lived together in Spartanburg for 73 years. She was the very best mom and a true southern lady, in the best sense of the word. Gracious and kind, always placing the needs of others before her own. Over the years, she participated in several clubs, both private and civic, and developed and enjoyed many close friendships. She will be greatly missed.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Dean Barnett; her sons, Wren Barnett of Mars Hill, NC, Rusty Barnett of Spartanburg, SC and Michael Barnett (Kay) of Madison, NC; her sisters, Kaye Bramlett of Valdese, NC and Becky Scruggs of Cowpens, SC; six beloved grandchildren, Sam, Katie, Sarah, Becca, Andrew, and Lewis; two great-grandchildren, River and Marcelle; along with many nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by her sisters, Blanch Daves and Vera Taylor; and her brothers, Newton Taylor, Max Taylor, Cecil Taylor, and Carrol Taylor.

Visitation will be at 1:00 – 1:45 pm, Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
