Jeanie O'Shaughnessy

1964 — January 1, 2021

Jeanie Shanon Poole O’Shaughnessy, 57, died unexpectedly on September 7, 2021. Jeanie was born January 5, 1964, to Sandra Jean and Ted Poole in Natchez, MS. She was raised in Amite County, MS, and Tulsa, OK.

Jeanie was passionate about and devoted to her family above all else. She had a fierce love for her husband and children, adoring the roles of wife and mother. She was always there and willing to do anything for each of them, telling them this frequently. She cultivated their love of learning and sense of adventure. She treasured home-cooked meals enjoyed around an impeccably set table with family and friends. She even mastered snow-skiing and scuba diving because her family loved these activities. Jeanie considered it a blessing to have married into the loving, close-knit O’Shaughnessy family of Wichita, KS, cherishing time spent together.

Jeanie attended the University of Notre Dame and was selected as a cheerleader for the Fighting Irish in 1985 and 1986. She remained a passionate supporter throughout her life. Jeanie pursued a career in institutional equity sales in San Francisco and New York before moving with her family to Spartanburg, SC, in 2007.

Jeanie loved travel and adventure. For their honeymoon, she and her husband traveled the Southern Hemisphere with just a small backpack for one year, establishing lifelong friendships along the journey. She climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and helped to establish an orphanage in Myanmar. Insatiably curious about the world, she most recently traveled throughout Egypt this summer with her family.

Quietly selfless, Jeanie was always caring for others with a particular passion for helping the elderly. She loved bringing food and flowers, calling for check-ins, providing rides or simply visiting. Even though Jeanie was a nationally ranked fitness competitor, she had a fondness for red wine, dark chocolate and cake—in fact, anything sweet.

She was highly organized in all aspects of her life, never forgetting a birthday or throwing out a receipt. As a servant leader, she volunteered and served on the boards of Mobile Meals, Group of 100, Women Giving, YMCA of Spartanburg, Noble Tree Foundation among others. She loved beauty and for things to be right—-whether a beautifully-wrapped gift or a well-run grant process.

She was predeceased by her mother and sister Tisha Poole. She is survived by her adoring husband Patrick O’Shaughnessy, her son Patrick Theodore, and her daughter Lillian Shannon of Spartanburg; and her father Ted Poole of Smithdale, MS.

A Celebration of her life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Jeanie may be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, 419 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or the charity of one’s choice.
