Jack Peterson

Jack Peterson, 90, a resident of Lakewood Senior Living of Boiling Springs, SC died Friday, November 12, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 2, 1931 in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late Harry and Vera Bray Peterson, and the husband of the late Marge Hannan Peterson.

A US Navy veteran, Mr. Peterson graduated from Ashland College in Ashland, OH. He was a football coach in Canfield and Wooster, OH. Moving to Spartanburg, he was the Head coach and Athletic Director at Wofford College where he took pride in mentoring countless young men.

Jack was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish relations committee and was a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his sons, Jack E. Peterson, Jr. (Pat) and Jeff T. Peterson (Kristy), all of Spartanburg, SC, his grandchildren, Jacalyn Stephens, Lauren Baker, Ryan Peterson and Blake Peterson, and his great granddaughter, Jaelyn Stephens. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Debra P. Eckley, his brother, Bill Peterson, and sisters, Mary Louise Comitto, Sara McClurg, Anna Mae Byers and Lucille Peterson.

A Graveside service with Military Rites will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 15, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Brad Gray. Visitation will be at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
