Isaac Lindow White, III of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the age of 92. Even during his final weeks, he continued to amuse his family and staff of Eden Terrace with his stubbornness, dry wit, and charm.
Lindow was born in Bradenton, Florida in 1928. He was the son of Pearl Elizabeth Fox White and Isaac Lindow White, Jr. As a young child he would drive back and forth to school in his goat pulled cart and worked on the family farm. He claimed he was the inventor of chicken donuts, which we are unsure what these consisted of and never wanted to try. He was captain of his football team during high school years and continued to play football at Washington and Lee University. Lindow was drafted into the Army during college and served for two years. When he returned to complete his education, he met his wife, Ann Watkins. Lindow and Ann were married for 35 years and had four children, Susan White Floyd (Russel) of Spartanburg, SC, Frannie White Laube of Greenville, SC, Robert Lindow White (Melinda) of Spartanburg, SC, and Cindy White Metcalf (Max) of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Hunter Williams (Ben) of Charleston, SC, Whitley Floyd of Charleston, SC, Austin Laube of Charleston, SC, Jeremy O’Dell of Spartanburg, SC, Isaac White IV of Spartanburg, SC, and Reynolds Metcalf of Greenville, SC. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert and his wife, Ann who passed away in 1987.
Lindow married Ruth Johnson in 1992 and they were married for 27 years. Ruth passed away in 2020. He is also survived by his extended family Kim J. Tuck (Phillip) of Spartanburg and Gemma J. Charles (Scurry) of Greenwood, SC, and three grandchildren, Brooke Steese (Stephen), Scurry Charles, and Bennett Charles.
Lindow had a long career in the textile industry and was employed by Dan River Mills and Milliken & Company as an Industrial Engineer. He had several hobbies, but he was most noted for his oil painting replicas, reciting quirky poetry and his exceptional brick masonry work. His exterior brick wall at the family’s former home on Mills Avenue was his most famous creation.
We gratefully thank Cindy Hughes, the caregivers at Eden Terrace and Interim Healthcare Hospice for the love and special attention given to our father.
