Hollis Blackwell Taylor

February 20, 1928 ~ October 5, 2021 (age 93)


Hollis Blackwell Taylor, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at White Oak Estates. Born February 20, 1928 in Belle Haven, VA, he was the son of the late Percy Lynnwood and Margaret Marshall Taylor and the husband of 66 years, Naomi McAdoo Taylor.

Mr. Taylor enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 as a Hospital Corpsman and when he retired as a LT. Commander in 1972, he had served in WWII, The Korean Conflict and The Vietnam War. During this time, he earned his Undergraduate in Business Administration from The George Washington University in 1969. He then completed his Masters of Science in Health Administration from Temple University in 1977. Holding several positions during his career in the medical administration field, he retired from Mary Black Memorial Hospital as Vice President from 1984 – 1998.

A member of many associations and clubs, he was a member of South Carolina Hospital Association, Board of Trustees, Spartanburg East Rotary Club, Board of Directors, First Presbyterian Church, Elder and Sunday School teacher, Deacon in Somerdale, NJ Presbyterian Church, a tutor at Cleveland Elementary School, delivered Mobile Meals, member of North Spartanburg Rotary, President and Secretary of Daniel Morgan Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Spartanburg Men’s Garden Club, and a member of the Girl Scout Council.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Naomi McAdoo Taylor, his son, Michael William Taylor (Emily) of Jacksonville, FL, his daughter, Kathi Lynn Smith (Ronnie) of Charlotte, NC, grandson, Brandon Hollis Taylor (Blanca), granddaughter, Taylor Rosa Lee Ward (Travis), great granddaughter, Avery Marie Ward, his brother, William D. Taylor of Orange, VA, his sister, Patsy Taylor of Saluda, VA, and sister-in-law, Deborah Taylor of Littleton, CO. He is predeceased by two brothers, Leon Taylor and Wayne Taylor.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 16, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
