Edward Henry Atkins, Jr., 92, formerly of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, July 10, 2021 at NHC Healthcare Parklane. Born June 23, 1929 in Easley, SC he was the son of the late Etta Beacham and Edward Henry Atkins Sr. and husband of the late Marjorie Gossett Atkins.
A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Atkins was a Wofford College alumni and real estate appraiser for 20 years. Ed enjoyed Wofford Athletics, where he was No. 1 in doubles and No. 2 in singles for the Wofford College tennis team. He loved his family, laughing, singing and he always whistled when he walked. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his children, Colette Atkins Wines (Jim) of Lugoff, SC, Eddie Atkins (Debbie) of Anderson, SC, and Susanne Atkins Hawkins (Daryl) of Columbia, SC, his grandchildren, Roma Susanne Wornall, Ashley Hawkins Parham (Tyler), Allison Elizabeth Hawkins, Cory Wornall O’Shields (Michael) and Chelsea Atkins Goodwin (Houston), and his great grandchildren, Jay Baxley and Maci O’Shields. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Frank, Carl, Harold, Annie Mae, Alice, Joann, and Ruth.
Graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Motlow Creek Church Cemetery, 2300 Motlow Creek Road, Campobello, SC 29322, conducted by Dr. Dennis Tedder. Visitation will follow after the service.
