Clarence Johnson

February 10, 1930 — September 4, 2021

Clarence Lee Johnson, 91, of Spartanburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 4, 2021, his and his precious wife, Mick’s, wedding anniversary.  They were able to enjoy their first heavenly anniversary together.  Mildred “Mickey” Moore Johnson predeceased Clarence on February 5, 2015.

Clarence was born on February 10, 1930 in Pelzer, SC, a son of the late Benjamin Tillman Johnson and Mallie Rosalee Gambrell Johnson. He retired after 48 years of service with the U. S. Postal Service and was a veteran of the US Army.

A member of Northside Baptist Church, he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon.  Clarence loved writing and distributing his poetry and sharing the Gospel.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and working around his home.

Surviving are his daughter, Terri Lancaster (Carl) of Horseshoe, NC; his grandchildren, Rob Welborn (Alice) of Spartanburg, SC and Megan Lancaster (Jonathan) of Chalmette, LA; his great-grandchildren, Eleanor Welborn and Jasper Palazzolo; and his sister-in-law: Kay Moore of Roebuck.

Clarence was also predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021, at First Baptist Church-Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.  Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.  Guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and observe proper distancing at the visitation and services in an effort to help maintain the safety of all family and guests.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to “The Bridge” at Green Street, c/o First Baptist Church -Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.
