Bessie Hodge Hobbs, 88, of Spartanburg, SC went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, July 28, 2022. Born August 1, 1933 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Tilda Ann Loving Hodge.
Bessie was a retired manager for Custom Cleaners and attended Cecil’s Business College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. She served as a worthy matron with the Order of the Eastern Star, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Whitney Fire Department and a Girl Scout leader for many years. Bessie was well known for her contagious smile and big hugs for everyone she met. She had a life long passion for helping others. Bessie also loved all of her children from Allen Acres.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, William R. Hobbs; son, Dennis Kimbrell (Linda) of Chesnee; daughters, Carol K. Wofford of Pauline and Robin Tucker of Mayo; grandchildren, Bo Wofford, Annie Wofford Hames (Landon), Travis Tucker, Dr. Tiffany Kimbrell and David Kimbrell; great-grandchildren, Jake Hames, Hadley Wofford and Harlyn Tumax; and sisters, Virginia Bell Smith of Pacolet and Marigold Holly of Columbia. Bessie is predeceased by siblings, James Hodge, Mildred Henderson and Betty Jo Stepp.

Visitation will be 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Monday, August 1, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Phillip Dodd. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
