Anne Blackwell

March 27, 1920 — January 18, 2018

Anne Brown Lee Blackwell, age 97, passed away from her life on this earth on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Anne was born on March 27, 1920, in Pacolet, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Frances Greer Brown and M.W. Brown. Anne is preceded in death by her husbands from two wonderful marriages, Capt. James M. Lee (d. 1944) and Howard T. Blackwell (d. 1979). She is also preceded in death by her brothers, M.W. (Buddy) Brown and John Herbert (Uncle John) Brown. She is survived by her sister, Jean Cochran (Lenwood). Anne is also survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Lee Cole (Ed); son, Tom Blackwell (Debbie); grandsons, Erik Cole (Jennifer), Ryan Blackwell, and Christopher Blackwell (Lauren). She delighted in spending time with her two great grandchildren, Owen and Alice Cole. She also enjoyed keeping up with her many nieces, nephews, and friends across South and North Carolina. As a teacher and school librarian in South Carolina, Anne shared with countless students her love of learning and delight in exploring new ideas. She had a keen interest in history and was particularly involved in historic preservation activities in her beloved Pacolet. She also remained an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A life-long member of the Pacolet United Methodist Church, Anne approached each day as an opportunity to care for others with an unselfish spirit. A skilled listener with a magnetic personality, Anne offered counsel and comfort to her friends, her family and even those she barely knew. When she moved to Nashville in 2001, she became an active participant in the life of Vine Street Christian Church. In 2009, Anne became a resident of the Health Center at Richland Place in Nashville. She continued to bring joy, wisdom and an appreciation for the wonders of life to all around her. She was grateful for the care and support she received during her time at Richland Place. Her family joins in this appreciation. Anne, in turn, passed this care and support along to all whom she encountered each day.
