William Haskell "Hack" Thomas, Jr., 88, of 205 Main Street, Converse, SC, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. Born April 3, 1928, in the Arkwright community of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late William Haskell Thomas, Sr. and Sally McGraw Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a member of Converse Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, usher, and also served on the Finance Committee for many years. He was a veteran PFC in the U. S. Army Air Force, formerly worked for Clifton Manufacturing, Thomas & Howard, and retired from Torrington Bearings. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margaret Solesbee Thomas of the home; two sons, W. H. Thomas III (Vivian) of Inman, SC and Wendell A. Thomas (Lorri) of Converse, SC; two daughters, Jean T. Loving (Gary) of Boiling Springs, SC and Sally T. O'Shields (Allen) of Spartanburg, SC; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:45 PM Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Davis, the Rev. Norman Philbeck, and the Rev. Michael Boyter. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Converse Baptist Church, PO Box 159, Converse, SC 29329.
