William Lipscomb

March 27, 1921 — May 30, 2009

William D. (Bill) Lipscomb, 88, of Main Street, Cowpens, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Mary Black Hospital. Born March 27, 1921, in Cowpens, SC, he was the son of the late John T. and Bernice Goforth Lipscomb. He was retired from Stone Drug Store, a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Cowpens where he had perfect attendance for 37 years in Sunday school, a member of the Cowpens American Legion, a lifetime member of Cowpens Masonic Lodge #210, and former Shriner and member of Cowpens Lions Club. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Lipscomb was predeceased by four sisters, Dora L. Kirby, Sarah Lipscomb, Mary Brown, and Lucille Dowis; and a brother, Ray Lipscomb. He is survived by seven nephews, Terrell Lipscomb, Conrad Lipscomb, Wesley Dowis, Bobby Dowis, Harry Dowis, Jack Dowis, and Earl Brown; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ronell Owensby and the Rev. Brent Dowis. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to the Cowpens Veterans Park, c/o Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
