William Ford, Jr.

September 2, 1926 — February 12, 2023

William Bascom Ford, Jr. 96, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, February 12, 2023 at SMC-Mary Black Campus. Born September 2, 1926 in Arcadia, SC, he was the son of the late William Bascom and Codie Mae Allen Ford and the husband of the late Betty Rebecca Parris Ford.

William was a lifelong member of over 55 years at Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Director, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Royal Ambassador Leader.

William was retired from Smith’s Drug Store #1 where he was employed for over 63 years as a salesman of hearing aids. He also worked for Wofford College as a ticket agent for events.

After graduating from Fairforest High School, Mr. Ford was a U.S. Army 24th Infantry Korean War veteran. He was a member of The American Legion Post 28 and Civil Air Patrol, where he was a Squadron member since the early 1960’s.

Survivors include his sons, Daniel Bascom Ford (Connie) of Cowpens, SC, David Ford (Susan) of Pauline, SC, and Doug Ford (Tina) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Chrissy Ford (Kyle) of Charlotte, NC, Shawn Amatriain (Chris) of Spartanburg, SC, William Ford (Lauren) of Spartanburg, SC, Meghan Ford of Spartanburg, SC and James Ford of Boiling Springs, SC; and great grandchildren, Ainsley Amatriain, Liam Amatriain, Piper Amatriain, Emmeline Ford, Lillian Ford, and Sadie Ford. Along with his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Carlisle Ford, Monk Ford, Boyce Ford, Ralph Ford, Frank Ford, Kathryn Brininger and Harry Ford.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Les Scoggin. Visitation will follow after the service.

Memorials may be made to The American Legion Post 28, P.O. Box 391, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
