Wendell Bright

December 31, 1952 — April 15, 2022

Wendell Corey Bright, 69, husband of 43 years of Brenda Faye Watts Bright, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at Upstate Community Hospice House.  He was born December 31, 1952, in Cowpens and was a son of the late Ralph Vester and Odessa Parker Bright.

On April 15th at 1:30AM, Wendell Corey Bright left this earth and passed into the heavenly arms of Jesus at the Landrum Hospice House.

Wendell was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and held an associate’s degree in electrical engineering.

He was a longtime devoted member of First Baptist North Spartanburg for the past 30 years. Where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, AWANA leader, and any other duties that were required to serve others. He was also an avid member of the Fish and Chips puppet ministry that spreads the gospel to children through puppets.

Wendell was employed and retired from Duke Power with 28 years of service. He was a hard worker and enjoyed every facet of his career. He especially enjoyed helping others during storm trouble. He organized teams to restore power to areas impacted by severe weather across the East Coast. He continued to work after retirement for a contract company Synergetic. He then returned to one of his favorite pastimes of driving a school bus. He drove for Spartanburg School District One where he enjoyed seeing the students' smiling faces every morning and afternoon. He also served as a trainer for new bus drivers as well as serving as the mail courier for the district.  Before his illness rendered him unable to work, he continued to serve in the transportation field as a driver for a nursing home providing transportation for the elderly.

Wendell was a caring, devoted, and loving husband and father to his family. He enjoyed traveling and seeing many sights across the country. He sought everyday as an opportunity for adventure. He believed in living life to the fullest, as if each day were your last. He filled each day with love, joy, and laughter. There was never a dull moment when in his company.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; Daughters, Brittany Graham (Will) and baby girl due in July, and Nicole Rosecrans (Chris); Siblings, Ralph Bright (Betty), Debbie Terry (Thomas) and Steve Bright (Elizabeth); Many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his great nephew, Korey Isham.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at First Baptist Church North Spartanburg, 8740 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC, 29316.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at First Baptist Church - North Spartanburg conducted by the Rev. Mike Hamlett.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC, 29307.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upstate Community Hospice House, 260 Fairwinds Dr., Landrum, SC, 29356.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Upstate Community Hospice House for all of the wonderful care they provided.
