Virginia Dare Luker Cubitt, 86, of Spartanburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at RoseCrest Retirement Community where she had resided for the past five years. Born September 29, 1922, in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of the late Archie Oliver Luker, Sr. and Eunice Waters Luker and the widow of the late Ralph Charles Cubitt. She was retired from The Aug W. Smith Company and was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Cubitt Bowyer and her husband David of Spartanburg, Joyce Cubitt Polson of Lyman, and Barbara Cubitt Massey of Taylors; a granddaughter, Cindy Miller Wright of Greer; seven grandsons, David Eugene Bowyer, Jr. and Gregory Scott Bowyer, both of Boiling Springs, Stephen Charles Bowyer of Raleigh, NC, Kevin Matthew Bowyer of Charlotte, NC, Timothy Shane Polson of Greer, Jeffrey Charles Massey of Travelers Rest, and Michael Wintford Massey, Jr. of Columbia; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Chadwick Polson; two brothers, Archie O. Luker, Jr. and Wilbur H. Luker; and a sister, Sara L. Jennings. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. M. Todd Lowe. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the National Children's Cancer Society, 1015 Locust Avenue, Suite 600, St. Louis, MO 63101; or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. The family is at their respective homes. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of RoseCrest for the love and wonderful care given to Mrs. Cubitt.
