Vaden "Roscoe" Calvert, 86, passed away on July 1, 2025, in Spartanburg, SC, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and dedication to all who knew him. Born on July 28, 1938, in Poplar Springs, SC he was the son of the late Vaden Calvert and Kathleen Ward.
He lived an extremely active life, devoting over 50 years to the profession of long-distance truck driving. He achieved the prestigious million miles award with no accidents. After hanging up his keys, Roscoe continued to serve the community for more than 18 years at Spartanburg County Recycling, known as station 17.
In addition to his professional life, Roscoe proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division, showcasing the commitment and honor that would define his character. Outside of work and service, he found joy in spending time in his yard and workshop. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner.
A devoted member of Inman Mills Baptist Church for over 20 years; Roscoe held his faith and family close to his heart. He was a man who truly loved God, his family, and wanted nothing but the best for them. His life was characterized by kindness—he never met a stranger and had a sincere willingness to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. A dedicated and loving daddy and pa, Roscoe's spirit resonated within the hearts of many.
Roscoe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy "Dot" Calvert; his daughters, Wanda C. Fine, Dreama C. Cooper (Ricky), and Johnna Calvert; along with his beloved grandchildren, Jake Fine (Heather), Justen Fine, Codi Strickland (Eric), and Clint Cooper (Ashley). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Tyson Fine, Carley Fine, Chase Fine, Maddux Vaden Fine, Dakota Cooper, Olyvia Strickland, Wrigley Strickland, Remington Cooper, and Cora Cooper. He also deeply loved others whom he embraced like his own children.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his siblings: Al Calvert, Billy Calvert, J.W. Nelson, and Geraldine Clark, also predeceased by his son in law Doug Fine.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM, Thursday, July 3, 2025, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Travis Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Inman Mills Baptist Church - Operation Christmas Child Fund, 22 B. Street, Inman, SC 29349.
