Tom Richardson

d. August 30, 2022

Tom McGee Richardson, 64, of Newport News, Virginia, lost his battle with Guillian Barre Syndrome on August 30, 2022. Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of Libba and Bob Richardson and devoted husband of Beth Ann Olson Richardson for 35 years.

Tommy attended Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, graduated from Spartanburg High School, then attended Clemson University. He worked for many years in the Service Department at Wakefield Buick and continued his commitment to automobile sales and service when he moved to Virginia.

Tom was an avid boater and water sports enthusiast all his life – he was never happier than when on a boat, preferably with Beth and his dog. He enjoyed Lake Bowen while in South Carolina and explored the James River and Chesapeake Bay waterways while in Virginia. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” in the neighborhood and refurbished and repaired anything that moved, from lawn mowers to bikes. Tommy would help anyone in need any way he could. He loved dogs and was never without one (or two!) during his lifetime.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by brothers, Robert “Ricky” Richardson (Betsy) of Spartanburg and Scott Richardson (Carolyn) of Simpsonville; and sister, Bibba Richardson McKemy (Hal) of Wyomissing, PA. He was uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and a great uncle as well.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Animal Rescue of your choice in Tommy’s memory or to the Guillian-Barre Syndrome/CIPD Foundation Intl, 375 East Elm Street Suite 101, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
