Toby Gerald Chapman, passed away on July 27, 2025, at the age of 79 in Spartanburg, SC. Born on April 19, 1946, in Winnsboro, SC, he was the son of the late Gerald Milton Chapman and Mary Ligon Chapman.
Toby graduated from Winnsboro High School and Clemson University, where he developed a strong foundation that would support his successful career. He was a member of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church and had previously been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.
He was involved in the real estate industry with a career spanning more than 50 years. Since 1984, he served as the owner and president of Lesco Restorations, Inc., proudly holding contractor licenses in twelve states as well as a real estate broker's license in North Carolina.
In his retirement, Toby found joy in genealogy research, proudly discovering that one of his ancestors worked as a carpenter for Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and later built the first Mint in Charlotte, NC.
Toby leaves behind his beloved wife, Carolyn Williamson Chapman; a son, John; a grandson, Owen; a stepdaughter, Bentley, and her husband, Ray; along with step-grandchildren Annie, Eliot, Savannah, and Calista. He was predeceased by his son, Lee Chapman.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM, Saturday, August 2, 2025, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 500 Oak Grove Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with burial at The Greenbrier Cemetery, 681 Greenbrier Mossydale Road, Winnsboro, SC. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Carl Robbins.
