Obituary

Thomas Willis Wilson, known as “Tommy” to his family and “Willie” to his friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on Sunday, July 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Willie was a man whose greatest joy came from the people he loved. His son, Matthew, was the pride of his life, and nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He was the kind of man who never hesitated to show up when someone needed him, always willing to give his time, his skills, and his heart without expecting anything in return.

Willie was one of the original founders of his motorcycle club, known as “The Shop,” based in Spartanburg with a beloved branch in Virginia. For over 52 years, the club has proudly carried on his legacy. He found freedom on the open road, treasured the friendships he built through the club and beyond, and created countless memories with those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone whose life he touched.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Mae Wilson and Homer Woodrow Wilson Sr., and his brother, Homer Woodrow “Buddy” Wilson Jr.

He is survived by his devoted son, Matthew Wilson; his daughter-in-law, Brittany Wilson; and his cherished grandson, Ryatt Wilson. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Betty Jane, Joyce, wife of Howard, and Libby, wife of Gene, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Willie’s legacy is not measured by possessions, but by the countless lives he touched through his compassion, generosity, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, friends who became family, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Though he has taken his final ride, the love, kindness, and example he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Floyd’s on Main on Saturday, July 18, 2026 with viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by services at 11:00 a.m., and interment at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate a life well lived and to honor a man who never met a stranger and never turned away someone in need.
