Thomas Terry

Thomas Edward Terry, 66, of 4910 Armstrong Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 23, 1942, in Gadsden, AL, he was the son of Rebecca Garrard Terry of Athens, GA, and the late Herbert Wayne Terry. He was a Television News Anchor and Reporter, the District Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and an account manager with the United Way. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from the William S. Grady School of Journalism. Mr. Terry was a member of Fairforest Church of God and the Bread of Life Sunday School Class, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was past president of the Columbus Press Club, Columbus, GA. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Janet Muller Terry; a son, Chris Terry and his wife Summer of Inman; a daughter, Lisa Terry and her financ Joey Solesbee of Spartanburg; two sisters, Suzanne Young and her husband Walton of Atlanta, GA, and Debra Wooten and her husband Michael of Athens, GA; a brother, Randy Terry and his wife Evelyn of Richmond, VA; granddaughters, Kirstin Bowden, Maddy Solesbee, and Savannah Terry; three grandsons, Brandon Bowden, Carter Terry, and Andrew Crowder; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Fairforest Church of God conducted by the Rev. John H. Petty, III. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
