Thomas Ford, 62, Spartanburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023. Tom was born to the late Martha May Ford and James Malcolm Ford in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Williamston, Michigan. He attended Williamston High School and Michigan State University.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Tom was stationed in Germany as a Chemical Ops and Administrative Specialist from 1985 to 1988. On December 29th, 1989, he married Gerlinde Gross in Reinheim, Germany, where he lived for 13 years. He then worked as a proud optometry practice administrator for over 25 years in Houston, Texas and Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Tom was known for his kind spirit, his unique sense of humor and for always putting others before himself. He was a life-long learner and had an enduring fascination with the moon landing. He had a deep passion for music and always tinkered at home on at least one handyman project. He enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs and was always up for a game of cribbage.
Tom is survived by his wife, Gerlinde Ford; his son, Alexander Ford; and his siblings, Karen (Dr. Richard Potts) Potts and David (Janice) Ford. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha Ford and James Ford.
Visitation will be 5:30 – 6:15 PM on March 16, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:30 PM in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Shawn Fortner.
