Obituary

Thomas Dale Mason, 70, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his room at Wildcat Senior Living Facility in Summerville, SC on July 14, 2026.

Dale was born February 6, 1956, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, son of the late Thomas Lyles Mason and the late Lelleree Johnson Mason. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1974. While living in Spartanburg, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Following high school, he became a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Clemson University where he graduated in 1979. While he did receive his bachelor’s degree from Clemson, he also earned a computer science degree from USC Upstate.

After college, Dale spent many years in Blythewood, SC, where his children grew up and they attended the Village Church. Mr. Mason worked at various insurance companies in the Columbia area as an Insurance Adjuster, including; Companion P&C, Horace Mann Ins., QBE and American Southern. Dale had many hobbies, but the most notable were golf, music and Clemson football (Go Tigers!). He had many friends and family that also enjoyed similar hobbies, which was why it was so easy to remain as close as they were. Dale will be missed deeply by his family and friends.

He is survived by son, Alexander Gutierrez Mason (wife Ashley) of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Madeline Elise Mason of Blythewood, SC; his former wife, Anita Gutierrez Mason of Blythewood, SC; and a brother, Kenneth Lyles Mason (wife Kathy) of Summerville, SC.

A memorial service to honor the life of Thomas Dale Mason will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and will start at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
