Thelma Mcdowell

Thelma Lee Quinton McDowell, 91, of Norris, TN and formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Meadow View Assisted Living-Clinton, TN. Thelma, wife of the late Jerome E. McDowell, was born September 30, 1924 in Lenior City, TN. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Frank and Jessie Lee Quinton. Thelma moved to Spartanburg with her family in 1940 and married Jerome in 1944. She worked for Jonathan Logan and Butte Knit. Prior to her move back to Tennessee in 2012, she was an active member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Sue and husband Larry Hill of Norris, TN, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Sean Hill (Amanda), Meghan Modisette (Jeremy), and Tara Hill (Mark Huffman); and two step-great-grandchildren, Eli Huffman and Heidi Hill. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by six brothers, Cecil, John, Calvin, Fredrick, Alvin, and Robert Quinton; and one sister, Pearline Quinton. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service honoring her life will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Lee. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a worthy cause of your choice.
