Sidney Walter Shealey, Jr., known affectionately as Sid, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Spartanburg, SC. He was born on December 14, 1934, in Columbia, SC, and the son of the late Sidney Walter Shealey, Sr., and Reba Faust Shealey.
Educated at the University of South Carolina, Sidney earned a bachelor’s degree which provided him with a strong foundation for his successful career. Sidney's love for his country was evident through his military service in the United States Army. His dedication to upholding the values and ideals of his nation inspired those around him.
Sidney had a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant with Milliken for many decades. He was a dedicated and hardworking professional who excelled in his field. His commitment to his work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sidney will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was devoted to his beloved wife of 68 years, Nancy Fisher Shealey. Together they built a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories.
A proud father, Sidney and Nancy raised two sons, Joseph Alan Shealey of Raleigh, NC and Russell Scott Shealey of Atlanta, GA. He imparted valuable wisdom and guidance to his sons as they navigated through life's challenges. Sidney's love for them knew no bounds.
One aspect that defined Sidney's character was his dedication to family. He cherished spending time with his three grandchildren: Sidney Shealey, Andrea Shealey, and Joseph Shealey. He had a special bond with each grandchild and delighted in creating precious memories with them. One of his favorite rituals was serving them ice cream before bedtime—a tradition that brought them immense joy.
Sidney valued meaningful relationships beyond his immediate family as well. He traveled around the world with his wife and friends, forging lifelong friendships along the way. These adventures created lasting memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his professional accomplishments and deep commitment to family, Sidney found fulfillment in various hobbies and interests. He was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and was always eager to discuss the latest game with fellow fans. Sidney also had a strong allegiance to his alma mater, the University of South Carolina, and enthusiastically cheered on the Gamecocks.
Sidney's generosity extended beyond his immediate circle. Following his retirement, he dedicated his time and efforts to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and his church. His selfless acts of service truly made a difference in the lives of others, leaving a lasting impact on his community.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Fernwood Baptist Church located at 200 Fernwood Dr., Spartanburg, SC., 29307. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the same location. The burial will immediately follow the funeral at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC, 29307.
Sidney Walter Shealey, Jr. lived a life filled with love, dedication, and meaningful connections. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Instead of flowers, Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Meals on Wheels.
