Shirley Mills

Shirley Baker Mills, 90, of Spartanburg, SC died Monday, July 25, 2022, at her son’s home. Born October 18, 1931, in Williamsburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Presley Durant and Addie Marie Gowdy Baker and was the wife of the late Eddie Joel Mills. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Presley Durant Baker, Jr., Larue H. Baker, Emma Jean Evans, Joseph H. Baker, and Myers S. Baker.

Shirley was a public-school teacher. She earned her teaching degree from Spartanburg Methodist College and Lander University. She loved teaching and taught for over 30 years at Southside Elementary, ZL Madden Elementary and Cleveland Elementary. She was a member of Hope Church where she loved attending her Bible Fellowship Group (BFG). She also enjoyed attending St. James United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Marie Mills of Charleston, SC and Joel Baker Mills (Rebecca) of Atlanta, GA, and her grandchildren, Katherine Marie Mills and Joel Baker Mills, Jr.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 12:45 to 1:45 pm at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Jan King. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Church – Missions at 102 John Dodd Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
