Shirley O’Shields Barnett, 87, of Spartanburg, passed away on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, at Upstate Carolina Hospice House in Landrum, SC. Shirley was born on June 19, 1938, in Spartanburg County, a daughter of the late Ada Louise Pettit O’Shields and Paul Brian O’Shields.
Shirley was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She received an associate degree in Banking. She retired from Assure South Insurance Company after 18 years of service.
A member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, Shirley was a joyful member of the church choir. Being a member of the Westminster Sunday School Class and the Kitchen Auxiliary also brought Shirley immense happiness.
Shirley is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 66 years, Robert N. “Bob” Barnett; her daughter, Kathy Barnett Hines of Huger, SC; a niece, Karen Elliot (Jim) of Salt Lake City, UT; and a nephew, Keith Taylor (Andrea) of Landrum SC. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her son-in-law, Terry Hines, and her three sisters, Carolyn Lamm, Frances Bailie, and Margaret Taylor.
A service to honor God and celebrate the life of Shirley Barnett will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, 6001 Highway 215, Pauline, SC 29374, conducted by Mr. Kevin Horres. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the committal service in the Bobby and Geneva Pettit Family Life Center at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 706 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to the Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery Enhancement Fund, PO Box 279, Pauline, SC 29374.
