Shirley Ann Anderson, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, was born June 15, 1935 in Sumter, South Carolina. She was raised by her late grandmother, Florence Turner, and her late aunt, Corrie Holland. She was a graduate of Sumter High School, Class of 1954.
On May 31, 1958, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Anderson, and together they shared 67 years of marriage. Shirley was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family, faithfully placing their needs above her own. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Shirley was affectionately known as “MaMoo,” a name given to her by her oldest granddaughter and lovingly used by all who knew her. She and her husband enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Lake Murray, traveling, especially on cruises and attending Carolina football games with family and friends. She took great joy in supporting her grandchildren and was a constant presence at their swim meets throughout the years.
A faithful Christian, Shirley was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday preschool teacher for many years. Her life reflected steadfast service to her church. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who were blessed to know her.
Shirley is survived by her husband, James Wiley Anderson; daughter, Catherine Anderson Elliott (Marc); grandchildren: Caitlin Elliott Wilson (Chip) Marcus Quitman Elliott II (Meg); great-grandchildren: Reed Wilson, Emery Wilson, Rhett Wilson, Avanell Elliott, Eloise Elliott and Wiley Elliott.
