Sarah T. Smalley

Sarah T. Smalley, age 83, peacefully departed this life on June 17, 2025, in Spartanburg, SC while surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 2, 1942, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late John Marcus Terry and Lillie Lee Howard Terry.

Sarah was not only a beloved wife but also an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her loving husband, Rev. Ronald Smalley, and their children who remember her warmth and guidance: son Terry Harvey, daughters Teresa H. Looney and Angela S. Karczewski (Jim), and son Ronnie F. Smalley (Tonya). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sarah was predeceased by her first husband, Marshall Lee Harvey, her daughter, Susan Ballenger, and her siblings: sister Martha Evatt and brothers Marion Terry and Loyce Terry.

For 35 years, Sarah stood by her husband in his pastoral duties, serving as a steadfast pastor's wife and a nurturing homemaker. Her gifts extended beyond her family; Sarah was an active participant in her church community, singing and leading the choir. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together and organized meaningful Christmas programs that created lasting memories for many. Sarah's love for her family was matched only by her faith and commitment to her church.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM, Friday, June 20, 2025, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.

Funeral service will be held, Friday, June 20, 2025, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel followed by the burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Services will be conducted by The Rev., Michael Coward.

Sarah's life reflected the values she lived by—love, faith, and a deep appreciation for her family; she will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
