Sarah Miller

Sarah Warwick Suitt Miller of Spartanburg, S.C. passed away on September 9, 2025. She was 102 years old. She was born in Spartanburg on October 17, 1922 to Benjamin Green Suitt and Mary Warwick Suitt. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Converse Heights enjoying basketball, tennis and piano. She graduated from Spartanburg High School and Converse College.

After graduating from Converse, she taught fourth grade for 36 years at Fremont and Jesse Boyd Elementary Schools. She loved all of her students and hardly ever went out without being greeted by a former student. In 2013 she moved to Summit Hills where she had many old friends and made many new ones. She loved her nightly card game and dining with friends. She loved Central United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member.

Sarah was a true southern lady in every sense of the word. She had a quick dry wit and loved to tell a good joke. Some of her many favorite things she enjoyed were chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, HOT coffee, Lance captain’s wafers and going to ride. She was the most generous person and loved doing for others. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children Michael Miller (Kate) of Spartanburg and Mary Ruth Handy (Chuck) of Charlotte and two grandchildren - Sarah Handy Lawson (Cameron) and Will Handy. She was predeceased by her husband L.B. Miller, brothers Benjamin Green Suitt Jr., Thomas Howard Suitt and a beloved sister, Mary Ellen Suitt.

The family would like to thank her very special friends Darlene Harmon, Donna Sawyer, and Jane Ratterree for their love and companionship. These ladies blessed her in countless ways daily. We would also like to thank the staff at Summit Hills, Live Long Well Care and Comfort Keepers for their many kindnesses.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday September 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in downtown Spartanburg. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church at 233 N. Church St, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
