Sara Foster Hall

Sara Foster Hall died on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born August 10, 1930, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Sara was the daughter of the late Clyde Walker Foster and Nettie Sue Layton. On February 10, 1951, she married Eugene (Gene) Oliver Hall. They were happily married for 50 years until Gene's death in 2001. Sara attended Winthrop College for two years.

Her love for the Lord was the foundation of her life. At First Baptist Spartanburg, she served in many areas. She loved people, and people loved her. Her faith was not something she simply professed; she lived it in the way she cared for people. She showed love and kindness to everyone she met.

Sara loved to keep her mind active playing bridge and was involved with many bridge clubs around town. She also had special friends that she played nickel nickel and rummy cube with. She loved to gather with others, both family and friends, and was always willing to make a meal out of nothing. She enjoyed serving others, delivering Mobile Meals, working with Kentucky missions and spending Thursdays at The Bridge at Green Street.

She was always thankful for the time she had to spend with you, and she always knew just what to say for every situation.

Sara is survived by her children, Pat Voelker and her husband Mark, Lin Hall, and Hal Hall and his wife Lea, all in Spartanburg; she had eight grandchildren, Sara Margaret West, Thomas Voelker, Charlie Lathan, Carter Lathan, James Hall, Suezanne Trotter, Kimberly Hall and Matthew Hall; along with four great grandchildren, Olivia West, Jackson Voelker, Owen Voelker and Ellie Lathan. Her sisters, Faye Brown and Emily Haskin predeceased her.

Sara was also blessed with many dear friends—a fitting reflection of a woman who spent her life making room for others. Sara will be remembered as the energizer bunny who never ran out of energy, her love for family and friends and acting like Jesus, her best friend.

Sara lived a full life and will be missed by all that knew her.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A worship service celebrating the life of Sara will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Seth Buckley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
