Sally Thornburg

Sally Adele Wyatt Thornburg, 79, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at home with her family and friends around her.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lyonell A. "Bill" Wyatt and Lucy Williams Wyatt; and sisters Patricia Clark and Alice Culton.

Sally was a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, in Charlotte, NC.

Sally is survived by John Thornburg, her loving husband of 57 years; her daughter Molly Thornburg of Clemson, SC; her son Chris Thornburg (Angela Shaw) of Columbia, SC; brothers Charles Wyatt, John Wyatt, Roger Wyatt, Tony Wyatt; her sister-in-law Brenda Thornburg; her godsons Thomas Wooten, Jonathan Wooten, and Michael Wooten, and; her grandchildren Joseph and Rosa Thornburg; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

The center of our family, much of the light and joy of our lives is gone but her precious love has rooted in our souls and lives forever. She spent her life investing in the lives of others. With hope and trust in the gift of Jesus Christ to the world, she rallied against many difficult challenges through the years. A favorite verse, I love the LORD for he heard my voice, he heard my cry for mercy, therefore I will call on him all the days of my life was her strength and amazing resilience. Our favorite, most cherished and precious person has gone and we hope the same promise she did, deeply longing to see and embrace her again. She took special delight in all things in life, especially the joy of sharing them with her beloved, high school sweetheart and husband John.  Her joy was always his joy.
