Rufus D. And Edna Rogers Cooksey

Rufus D. “Buck” Cooksey, age 94, and M. Edna Rogers Cooksey, age 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, August 19, 2022 and Sunday, August 21, 2022, respectively, at Terra Bella Assisted Living. They were married for 73 years.

Rufus was the son of the late John Alexander and Letha Mae Rice Cooksey.  Edna was the daughter of the late Clyde Jefferson and Nancy Jane Prince Rogers.

A US Army National Guard veteran, Mr. Cooksey was a Corporal. A workaholic, he was a composer with Band and White Printing for 47 years. A member of Jimmy Swaggart Media Church, Rufus loved his Lord and was totally devoted to his family. He loved yard work at their home and their Lake Greenwood home, as he was a “yard manicurist.”

After many years of service, Edna was retired from Dritz-Scovill and became a homebody, devoting all of her time to her family and her Lord. Edna was a member of Jimmy Swaggart Media Church. A kind and generous spirit, she loved her Lord and all of her family. She kept an immaculate home and was the best cook, most famous for her potato salad and German chocolate cake.

Survivors include their children, Judy C. Wilkie (Steve) of Roebuck, SC and Dexter Cooksey of Chesnee, SC; grandchildren, Stephen Channing Wilkie (Tracy) of Greer, SC, Summer Nicole Cooksey Barbrey (Mitch) of Inman, SC and Brandon Heath Cooksey (Kourtney) of Chesnee, SC; great grandchildren, Benjamin Wilkie of Greer, SC, Heath Cooksey of Chesnee, SC, Bryleigh Barbrey of Inman, SC, Saylor Cooksey of Chesnee, SC, Brynn Barbrey of Inman, SC and Kambrie Cooksey of Chesnee, SC.

Rufus was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret Cooksey, Virginia Cooksey and Leonard Cooksey. Edna was predeceased by two brothers, Dennis Rogers and Clyde Rogers.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29307. A Celebration of Lives Well-Lived will be at 11:00 am Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the chapel, conducted by Dr. David Duncan. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
