Rosalina Gillespie

Rosalina Brandt "Lena" Gillespie, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, December 18, 2017, at her home. Born September 20, 1930, in Walhalla, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Z. and Lillian B. Brandt. Lena was a dedicated wife and mother who loved all of her family. She was beloved and admired in her church and throughout the community. Lena was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church; where she was head of the Music & Altar Committee, was a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Women of the Church. She shared in many of the church expansion efforts and was proud to see the completion of the Gillespie Center. Lena volunteered for 35 years with Mobile Meals Service in several capacities, especially delivery. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Gillespie, whom she was happily married to for 66 years; children, Mike Gillespie (Carey) of Spartanburg, SC, Portia Walker (Steve) of Raleigh, NC, Millie Gillespie (Ronnie Strange) and Max Gillespie (Belinda), all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Ballentine (Bruce), Brandt Goodwin (Amy), Miles Walker, Jennifer Myers (Ben), Elliot Walker, Mason Gillespie, and Walker Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Blake Ballentine, Ellis Goodwin, and Campbell Goodwin; brother, John Z. Brandt (Alice) of Hartsville, SC; and her good friend, Mary "Annie" Segears. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Pamella Lynn Gillespie. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, with funeral services following at 2:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Alan Kinsey.
