Obituary

Robin Riser Hunsinger passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, after a brief battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Spartanburg on January 7, 1943, to Francis and Anne Riser. Robin loved her hometown and was grateful to have spent the last 34 years there. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Bill Hunsinger.

Robin is survived by her brother, Randy Riser of Atlanta; her son, Joshua Hunsinger of Charlotte; her daughter, Dana (Mark) Homan; and her two grandsons, Harrison Homan of Charlotte and 2LT Carson Homan, U.S. Army. Many of Robin’s first cousins still live in Spartanburg County and in Atlanta—they were all her “favorite” cousins.

Robin graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1961 and from Columbia College with a degree in Art Education. She began her teaching career at Roebuck Elementary School and went on to teach in various schools in Rutherford County, North Carolina, while raising her children. After she and Bill returned to Spartanburg, she continued teaching. Over the course of approximately 25 years, Robin taught Art to students of all ages and grade levels.

Robin was a baptized member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spartanburg and remained a faithful and active member for more than 58 years. After her grandsons were born, she sang in the choir for nearly 20 years. Robin played an instrumental role in the installation of the Columbarium and Memorial Garden at St. John’s. She also co-founded the Archive Committee and served on the Church Council. During the years she lived in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Robin was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where she also sang in the choir.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers, med techs, and staff of Eden Terrace Assisted Living in Spartanburg. You made our mother’s last two years as meaningful and comfortable as possible, and we will always cherish those memories. A heartfelt thank you to Amy Hayden—there are not enough words to express our gratitude for the love and care you gave to both our parents over the past four years. You were a friend, a daughter, and a sister to us, and you brought grace, dignity, and peace to their final years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, or The Columbarium and Memorial Garden at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Spartanburg.
