Robert Thomas Walton, 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Roebuck, SC, on May 31, 2026. Robert was born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 7, 1947, to parents Anne and William Walton.
He attended St. Bartholomew Elementary School and Father Judge High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly baseball and basketball. He even caught the eye of professional scouts when he hit a home run at the cavernous Connie Mack Stadium at the age of 14. Robert would serve honorably in the Vietnam War from 1967-1970, where he worked in helicopter parts supply. He was known for having a refrigerator full of cold beer for any of his fellow soldiers who visited his station. He would go on to have a career as a printer, working for the Avery-Dennison corporation for many years before starting a business of his own. He would return to Avery-Dennison before retiring early in 2002 due to health problems related to exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam. His final years were spent at his home in Roebuck with his beloved German Shepherd, Rocky. Robert was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg.
Robert is survived by wife Sonia; son, Robert and wife, Jennifer; stepdaughter, Deborah Carr and husband, William; niece, Colleen Sacchetti and husband, Christopher, daughter, Brianna and son, Dominic. He is preceded in death by his father, William and his mother, Anne; wife, Joanne; sister, Anne; brother, William.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, conducted by the Rev. David R. Whitman. A reception will follow the funeral mass in the Parish Life Center. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 11, 2026, at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.
