Robert "Bud" Reid Duncan

January 24, 1954 — February 6, 2026

Spartanburg, SC

Robert Reid “Bud” Duncan, 72, of Spartanburg, went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born and raised in Greenville County.

Bud proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era and was stationed aboard the USS America. Following his military service, Bud worked for many years at Fiberweb in Simpsonville until he retired due to health reasons. He courageously battled heart disease for 34 years, from the age of 38 to 72. Throughout those years, he remained strong, generous, and giving. Bud attended Dependent Baptist Church in Inman, South Carolina. He enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, and finding peace in working with his hands.

Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife and the mother of his children, Pamela Jean King Duncan, whom he married on March 13, 1976. They shared 46 years of marriage until her passing on April 6, 2022. Pamela battled Alzheimer’s disease, and Bud lovingly cared for her in their home, serving as her primary caretaker until the final months of her life. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Margie Willis McMahan; his stepfather, Thomas McMahan; his father, Thomas Duncan; his brother, Thomas Irvin Duncan; and his sister, Vicki Lee Nelson.

He is survived by his children: Mandy Michelle Grant (Adam), Audrey Casey Shan Howerton (John), and Robert Matthew Duncan (Desiree). Bud was a proud grandfather to eight grandsons: Caleb Grant (Willow), Ethan Grant (Rebecca), Jackson Scruggs (fiancé Jordyn), Evan Grant, Aiden Duncan, Mason Duncan, Peyton Duncan, and Lawson Duncan; along with his step-grandchildren: Kayla Pratt, Asher Howerton, Logan Howerton, Grayson Howerton, Ivey Howerton, and Alaina Daring. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren: Addison Grant and Caleb Grant Jr.

The service to honor Bud’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Dependent Baptist Church, 791 Windmill Hill Road, Inman, South Carolina 29349. Pastor John Hinkle will officiate the service. The burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Bud will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and deep love for his family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for memorial contributions made in Bud’s memory to Dependent Baptist Church.

The arrangements are trusted to the care of Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. ◦
