Reginald High Turner

April 4, 1937 — September 2, 2023

Woodruff, SC

Reginald High Turner – of Woodruff, SC – passed away on September 2, 2023. He was born on April 4, 1937, in Switzer, SC. He was 86 and preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette E. Turner, also from Woodruff, and he missed her dearly. He had two sons, Dale Turner and Darrell Turner; six grandchildren, Ben, Chelsi, Andrew, Chase, Matthew, and Leigh Ann; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson-Luke, Lucy-Jo, Charlotte-Grace, Levi-Reginald, Maxine-Vera, and Daphne-Luvenia.

Reg lived a full and fulfilling life, instilled a strong value system in the family, and was always described as “a good man”. He was a great athlete early in life, playing quarterback during Willie Varner’s first season as Head Coach at Woodruff. He went on to play college football at Garner Webb, where he was an All-American punter. He excelled at golf and was the club champion at Three Pines Country club four years in a row from 1966 to 1970.

As much as Reg excelled in athletics, his true passion was hunting and fishing. He took great pride in being an excellent angler, winning many tournaments, and great pride in his skill as a hunter. Although never boastful, he would always smile when reporting on the results of the latest hunt.

He worked at Draper for 33 years in textiles, as a mold-maker, to provide for the family. The work was hot and arduous, but he never complained, maybe he took pride in knowing not many could handle the physical demands of his profession.

He was a dedicated life-long member of Green Pond Baptist Church, serving in numerous positions of leadership and volunteered on every occasion. Spurred by his wife Jeanette, he often volunteered whether he wanted to or not. There is unlikely a wall in the church he didn’t paint or a church dinner he didn’t cook for or serve. He sang in the church choir for most of his life, often singing solos with a deep bass voice.

Reg loved his wife and loved his family. He lived a life worth celebrating.
