Olin D. Smith

Olin Dewitt Smith, 90, of Pacolet, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Olin was born on July 5, 1936, in Pacolet Mills, SC, a son of the late Lula Garner Smith and Walter Robert Smith. He was married to the late Evie Wells Smith for 59 years.

Olin was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church. He served his church as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. A graduate of Pacolet High School, he graduated from Spartanburg Technical College and was a longtime employee of Firestone Steel Products (now Spartanburg Steel Products), retiring with over 25 years of dedicated service.

A very patriotic citizen, Olin was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from 1956-1960. Many things brought joy and happiness to Olin, but spending time with his family and swinging on his front porch ranked highest on his favorites list!

Surviving is his daughter, Cherie S. Luker (Tim) of Spartanburg, SC; his son, Jeffrey Olin Smith of Pacolet, SC; 4 grandchildren, Heath Brown (Valeen), Elizabeth Stevens (Drew), Jeffery Smith and Taylor Luker (Megan); six, great-grandchildren, Will Brown (Kenslie), Ian Brown, Ethan Brown, Lillian Lawson, Everly Stevens and Penelope Stevens; two great-great-granddaughters, Natalie Martin and soon to be born Sadie Brown; his brother, Ned Smith (Audrey); and his longtime special friend and companion, Jeanette Moore. Along with his wife and parents, Olin was predeceased by four brothers.

The family wished to share their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Jackie Moore and Phil Harris for the special care and support shown to Olin, and his family, during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:45 pm Friday, September 18, 2026, at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church, 350 Green Street, Pacolet. SC 29372. A service to honor God and celebrate Olin’s life will follow in the church sanctuary at 1:00 pm, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks, Mr. Jim Moore, and the Rev. Ralph Jett. Burial, with military honors provided by the US Air Force Honors Team, will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 141 Memorial Drive, Pacolet, SC 29372.
