Nell Brown

Nell Burnette Brown, 70, of Spartanburg, SC died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Franke at Seaside in Mount Pleasant, SC. Born June 20, 1945, a native of the New Prospect community, she was the daughter of the late Oliver B. Burnette and Agnes McMillan Burnette and widow of James Neil Brown. A 1963 graduate of Chapman High School, Mrs. Brown was a long-time kindergarten aide at James H. Hendrix Elementary School. She was also a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Alan (Ann) Brown of Charleston, SC, and Darrin (Dawn) Brown of Washington, DC; a daughter, Gina (George IV) Greene of Mount Pleasant, SC; and six grandchildren, Abby Brown, Ander Brown, Neil Brown, Sally Brown, George Greene V, and Thomas Greene. She is also survived by siblings Polly (Charles) Ragan, Burton (Wavie) Burnette, and Miriam (Paul) Crow. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2016, at New Prospect Baptist Church, by the Rev. Matthew Bishop. Private burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
