Nancy Dillard Osborne

November 2, 1951 — January 22, 2026

Spartanburg, SC

Nancy Dillard Osborne, 74, of Spartanburg, passed away on Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, at her home. Nancy was born on November 2, 1951, in Asheville, NC, a daughter of the late John F. and Myrtice Dillard Osborne.

Nancy grew up in Spartanburg and attended Spartanburg Schools, graduating from Spartanburg High School in 1969. She then graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College, Appalachian State University, Limestone College and Converse College. She retired from Cherokee County Schools in Gaffney, SC after serving as an Elementary School librarian for over 10 years.

Music always played an important role in Nancy’s life. She started playing piano at an early age and continued playing until recently, when she was no longer able to play because of her cancer illness. Nancy and a dear friend recorded videos that are available to view on YouTube. She also joyfully played in the hand bell choir at St. John Lutheran Church and, even recently, played the piano for church service at Ben Avon United Methodist Church.

Nancy was also a talented writer and poet. She compiled her writings into collections that she shared with her friends to provide comfort and encouragement.

One of Nancy’s greatest joys was the friendship that she enjoyed with her dog, Mocha. Nancy rescued Mocha from the Spartanburg Animal Shelter and they were steadfast companions for many years.

Nancy is survived by her cousin, Paul Osborne (Valerie) of Hendersonville, NC; and a host of dear friends.

A service to honor God and remember Nancy’s life will be held 3pm Monday, February 2, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. Heather Apel and the Rev. Edward Enlow.
