Nancy Lee Childs Maley

July 8, 1930 — April 30, 2024

Nancy Lee Childs Maley, age 93, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Upstate Community Hospice 
House in Landrum, SC. Nan was born at home in Pikesville, MD on July 8, 1930, the only child 
of Charles Edward Childs, Jr. and Minnie Adele Morris Childs. Nan professed Christ as her Lord 
and Savior since childhood. Nan attended Pikesville schools and graduated from Washington & 
Lee High School in Arlington, VA in 1948. Nan attended the Shenandoah Conservatory of 
Music in Winchester, VA, studying voice and piano; and took secretarial classes in Washington, 
DC.

Nan met the love of her life, Don, on a blind date on August 1, 1950. They married on 
September 23 and were married 49 years. They enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time 
with family and friends. Their daughter, Chris, was born in 1951, followed by their son, Chip, in 
1954, in Alexandria, VA. Nan and Don were members of the Lutheran Church with their 
children.

Nan worked at Messiah Lutheran Church Nursery and Kindergarten as a classroom aide; and 
later alongside Don in the steel fabrication industry. The majority of her married life was as a 
homemaker. 

After residing in Winston-Salem and Salisbury, NC, Nan and Don moved to Tega Cay, SC in 
1980. Nan relocated to Spartanburg, SC in November 2015, where she was a member of Skylyn 
Drive Presbyterian Church.

Nan was predeceased by her father (1987) and mother (1996); and by her husband, Donald J. 
Maley (1999).

Nan is survived by daughter, Christine M. Anderson; son, Chip Maley (Lee Ann); grandchildren 
Ryan Swaim (Kimberlee), Victoria Ferrell, Morgan Swaim (Martha), Adam Swaim (Meaghan), 
Diana Berti (Alden), and Andrew Maley (Rachel); and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church, 1801 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC, 29307, conducted by The Rev. Matt Richardson and The Rev. Peter Waid.
