Mrs. Mildred Frady

Mrs. Mildred Gowens Frady, 89, of 7560 Lone Oak Road, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born February 1, 1920, in Piedmont, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Maggie Shirks Gowens, and the loving wife of the late Thomas F. Frady. She was an active member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church, the Lone Oak Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the National Airstreamers Club. "Mama Frady", as she was known by family, friends, and anyone who met and instantly loved her, enjoyed many years of travel with her sweetheart and husband of 69 years. They were members of the National Airstreamers Club and spent over 30 years traveling with their Airstream friends. Mildred was surrounded by loving family including two sons, Kenneth Floyd Frady and Gerald Douglas Frady, both of Spartanburg; a daughter, Linda Frady Allen of Pendleton, SC; a daughter-in-law, Gaye Moore Frady; two brothers, Ray Gowens and his wife Dorothy, and Donald Gowens and his wife Alice; a sister-in-law, Peggy Gowens; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild is expected in September. She was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas, Jr.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Frady Perry; a brother, James W. "Jim" Gowens; and a sister, Sybil Gowens Cooper. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Scott S. Gilmer, the Rev. Keith Davis, and the Rev. Matthew Eddleman. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gravely Memorial Methodist Church, 7400 Lone Oak Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
