Miriam "Jo" Welchel

Miriam “Jo” Neighbors Welchel, 88, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 17, 1933 in Spartanburg County. She was the daughter of the late Grover Broadus and Grace Shook Neighbors and was the loving wife of the late Rev. Philip Welchel, serving as a devoted Pastors wife, and was a loving mother and beloved mema.

Jo was retired from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Valley Falls where she was a choir member and a member of Co-Ed Sunday School class.

Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Welchel Rogers (Eric) of Chesnee, SC and Carol Welchel Gibbs (Tim) of Inman, SC; her son, Philip Dale Welchel (Cynthia) of Inman, SC; seven grandchildren, Camden Rogers (Holly) of Inman, SC, Zachary Rogers (Leslie) of Boiling Springs, SC, Stephen Rogers (Nicole) of Waldorf, MD, Jami Brown of Greenville, SC, Jeremy Brown (Anna) of Inman, SC, Michele Welchel Cole (Chandler) of Boiling Springs, SC, Matthew Dale Welchel (Lauren) of Inman, SC; 19 great grandchildren, Taylor Rogers, Madie Rogers, Kaydyn Rogers, Chansen Cole, Cathen Cole, Caige Cole, Andie Rogers, Allie Rogers, Davis Tapp, Parker Tapp, Lane Fowler, Mason Rogers, Summer Rogers, Maci Brown, Lora Brown, Lawson Brown, Madden Welchel, Leyland Welchel, and Maven Welchel. She was also predeceased by a great granddaughter, Marleejo Cole.

A Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 17, 2022 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Gary Atkins. Visitation will follow at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Valley Falls, 8352 Valley Falls Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
