Milton Ashley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on July 15, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Mr. Omer and Emma Ashley.
With a Bachelors degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky, Milton's professional journey spanned three decades within the textile industry, where his engineering expertise flourished. Among the proudest accomplishments of his life was his 45 years of marriage to his wife Barbara Atkins Ashley. Together, they cultivated a life rich in laughter, respect, and mutual support.
Milton's passions extended far beyond his career. He found immense joy in trains, whether riding them or capturing their essence through photography. A proud member of the Piedmont 'N Southern Model Railroad Club and volunteer the Hub City Railroad Museum, he immersed himself in this hobby with enthusiasm that touched the lives of those around him. His interest ignited a shared passion among family and friends, many of whom delighted in accompanying him on train rides and excursions.
Milton is survived by his beloved wife; Barbara Atkins Ashley; Children: Beth Ashley (Daniel Jones), Steven Ashley, and Melissa Lark (Donald),and Kenneth Higgins (Christy); five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Omer Stevens Ashley and Emma Lou Campbell Ashley.
A visitation honoring Milton will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, located at 2075 E Main St, Spartanburg, SC. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at the same location, beginning at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Milton Ashley's honor to: Hub City Railroad Museum: 298 Magnolia Street Spartanburg, SC 29306.
