He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: Buster Putnam (Melody), Jennifer Humphries (Chris), Shane Stepp, Jessica Biershenk (Robbie), Chris Stepp, and Josh Stepp. He was preceded in death by his son, Matt Stepp.
Michael was a proud “Poppy” to eleven grandchildren: Destinie Matheny, Alyssa Putnam, Kylie Putnam, Brodie Putnam, Hunter Chapman, Harlie Chapman, Landon Stepp, Blakely Biershenk, Raelynn Biershenk, and Crew Humphries. His role as Poppy brought him great joy, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren.

He was a member of View Church in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. Michael loved Jesus, spending time with his family, cheering on the Carolina Gamecocks, playing golf, and riding his motorcycle. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and his incredible ability to make anyone laugh at any given moment.
A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM, with the funeral service and burial immediately following.
Michael will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is healed, whole, breathing freely again, and safely home with Jesus.
