Michael David Link, 73, of Chesnee, passed away early Sunday morning at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Michael was born on October 8, 1951, in Spartanburg, SC; a son of the late Guynema Hill Link and John Wesley Link.
Michael was a very gifted electrician. He received his associate degree from Spartanburg Technical College and, furthering his studies, became a Master Electrician. After receiving his Master Electrician designation, he served as an instructor in electrical applications. Michael was an electrical inspector with the City of Spartanburg for nearly 20 years. He previously worked at Hoechst-Celanese, Link Electric, and J. Frank Blakely Electrical Contractors. An avid worker; upon retirement, the city of Spartanburg continued to utilize Michael’s vast knowledge of all things electrical, and brought him out of retirement to consult on new city projects and building renovations. Due to his many years of reliable service to the city, a scholarship has been set up in his name, by the city, to afford students the opportunity to follow in Michael’s large footprints.
Michael was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and played the guitar with the Praise Team. He had a heart for missions, serving on trips to Haiti and South Dakota.
An avid outdoorsman, Michael truly enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also an accomplished craftsman, building everything from ornamental Christmas decorations, to birdhouses, to mandalins. Another endeavor close to Michael’s heart was music. For years, he was a member of the Lawsons Fork Creek Band.
Michael was also a proud veteran, serving his country in both the US Army and the US Air Force.
Surviving Michael is his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Strickland Link; his daughters, Misty Nicole Lim (Bo) of Boiling Springs and Brittany Link Summers (Perrie) of Greenville; his son, Nicholas Ryan Link of Charlotte, NC; his 5 grandchildren, Abigail, Olivia, Emmitt, Edison and Elena; a brother, Steve Link (Nancy) of Spartanburg; a host of nieces and nephews; and his loyal canine companion, Murphy.
