Merle Seay went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 19, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born on May 24, 1937, in Spartanburg County to the late Fred and Edith Smith. She was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg where she served as Director of Children’s Ministries until her retirement in 1997.
Following retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with Chosen Children Ministries, Child Evangelism Fellowship, The Senior Adult Ministries of First North, and helped form a committee to establish the Ruth Widow’s Ministry.
She was married to the love of her life, Billy Carl Seay from 1954 until his death in 2012. Along with her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Andrew J. Snow, son-in-law Chuck Snow, sister Lois Hammett, and brother Harold Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Debbie Snow of Campobello, Tina Walden (Bobby) of Inman, son Eric Seay (Martha) of Cornelius, NC, daughter Angie Johnson of Spartanburg, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren, two sisters Margie Brown of Fletcher, NC and Bettie Ramsey of Gastonia, NC and a brother Don Smith (Barbara) of Cowpens, SC.
The family will receive friends between 11:00 AM – 12:20 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at First Baptist North, 8740 Ashville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29316. The funeral service to honor Merle’s life will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:30 PM. Pastor Mike Hamlet and Pastor Al Phillips will officiate the service. A family graveside service will be held immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Joseph Turner, Edwin Hopkins, Eddie Hopkins, Rob Walden, Jonathan Terry, and Jordan Edwards.
Her memories will continue to live in the hearts of her family and friends.
Arrangements are trusted to the care of Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel.
