Matthew Adam "Muggs" Ranck, of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully surrounded by family at Medical University South Carolina on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at the age of 56. Born December 2, 1959, in Chelsea, MA, he was the son of the late Robert Burrell Ranck and Irene Kandel Ranck. Matthew is survived by his wife, Karen Mainor of Williamsburg, VA; children, Nick Bonyata of Columbia, SC, Hannah Ranck of Brooklyn, NY, and Karli Mainor of Williamsburg, VA; siblings, Robert Ranck of Portland, OR and Ellen Ranck Hoel of Tampa, FL. A 1978 graduate of Bayside High School, Matthew married Karen, a sweetheart from his days as camp counselor at Camp Makemie Woods, Barhamsville, VA, in 2013. He had one child, Hannah, from a previous marriage with Annabelle Sparks of Morehead, KY, and was legal guardian and father to both Nick and Karli. After leaving his longtime position with The New York Times Company, he successfully embarked on his own computer technology and sound recording company, Running Time. He was known across Spartanburg County as the kindest and funniest computer repairman in town, always a smile at the ready. Matthew was an accomplished musician and spent many joyful years on and off stage performing with his musical groups. He was also an active and dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church and often volunteered to perform for events. A Life Celebration will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church. 626 Norwood St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
